What Is the
?
The Live Mixing Experience Masterclass is a premium, in-person, two-day training designed for audio professionals and aspiring engineers who want to elevate their live mixing skills to a world-class level.
This is not a standard workshop or lecture series — it’s an immersive live mixing experience.
You’ll learn directly from Ken “Pooch” Van Druten, whose career spans global tours with some of the biggest artists in the world, and from Greg Price, one of the most influential rock FOH engineers of our time.
Across two deeply engaging days, you’ll observe how top-tier engineers think, work, solve problems, and make creative decisions that shape the sound of major live productions.
Both FOH and monitor engineers will find clear, practical techniques that improve consistency, clarity, and translation – especially in today's IEM-driven environments.
What You Will Learn
In this two-day immersive experience, you’ll explore real-world mixing workflow that applies directly to both FOH and monitor engineers.
Ken “Pooch” Van Druten will share how he approaches a mix from the very beginning — starting with microphone choice and placement, gain structure, high-pass/low-pass strategies, and the fundamentals to build clarity and balance in any live environment.
You’ll explore how he builds mixes that translate from club to stadium, managing dynamics, EQ, stereo image, and low-end energy while keeping the vocal present and impactful. Pooch will discuss frequency masking, stem mixing, parallel compression, console layout philosophy, and why organization and workflow are central to consistency on tour.
Throughout the masterclass, you’ll see real FOH process in action:
how Pooch uses virtual soundcheck, how he builds and organizes files, how he creates dependable snapshot strategies, and how he uses Smaart as a practical, musical tool — without letting measurement distract from mixing.
You’ll also dive into the artistic side of engineering: how to understand the heart of a song, how to work with playback vs. live musicians, how to develop taste, confidence, and mix intention, and how to collaborate effectively with artists, musical directors, monitor engineers, and production teams.
Greg Price will bring insight from decades of touring experience with major rock artists—including Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and Rage Against the Machine. He’ll share real stories, high-pressure decision-making strategies, stadium-scale mix approaches, and invaluable guidance on what it truly takes to succeed in the world of major rock touring.
By the end of the experience, you’ll leave with a stronger set of technical skills, a clearer artistic perspective, and a deeper understanding of how elite engineers think, hear, and execute — giving you tools you can apply immediately to your own mixes.
